Our Saturday evening concert will be 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 8th
After the wonderful success of our 2009 festival, we are now planning for our 2010 festival – our 20th and final festival: May 5th – 8th.
The "Multi-Cultural Storytelling Festival & Concert" is meant to be one positive way to bring cultural awareness and appreciation of other peoples to our communities, especially to our children. During this past festival, nationally-known tellers from three different cultures visited some 7,000 students in 27 schools. The response has been very gratifying as you can see by the enclosed comments. The tellers also present workshops, library storytelling, and an evening concert for the community. During the past nineteen years, 57 storytellers have visited over 130,000 students in the schools.
We will once again bring some of the finest tellers in the nation here to Eugene to share their cultural wealth with Eugene and neighboring communities. This year's festival is sponsored by the Lane Arts Council and produced jointly with the Very Little Theatre.
Our special tellers this year will be:
- DIANE FERLATTE – While Diane loves to tell stories to adults and families, school performances are what she loves the most. She has a wonderful, vast repertoire of story and song that appeals to all ages. Diane has performed across the United States as well as in Austria, New Zealand, France, Holland, and, as a featured performer, at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee. As one teacher in Hawaii exclaimed, " She was fantastic! I was amazed by the way she held everyone’s attention! I felt I was ‘in’ her stories."
- ANTONIO ROCHA – This wonderfully, talented, Brazilian artist has performed at the Singapore Festival of the Arts, the Aruba International Dance Festival, The Kennedy Center, The Smithsonian Institution, and the Dunya Festival in Holland. "Antonio Rocha’s stories challenge the imagination in an exciting new way. His storytelling was energetic, educational and entertaining!" – Kim Kovac, Senior Director, Kennedy Center Youth and Family Programs.
Tickets for the May 8th Saturday evening concert will be available at Euphoria Chocolates, 6 W 17th Avenue or on the night of the concert at the box office of Eugene’s Very Little Theatre (2350 Hilyard St. – 344-7751/ 344-8176). (Recommended for ten and older.)
